La Cellule is a self-catering cottage that is available for those wishing to make a silent retreat. Occasional travellers and couples are welcome, too, but a retreat is a single and singular journey. We also have a bed-sitting room with bathroom and small kitchenette in the nearby main building.
La Cellule‘s amenities include: bathroom with composting toilet, small tub and sink; kitchen with microwave oven, two burner hotplate, electric Dutch oven, crockpot, toaster, kettle, water cooler, all necessary cutlery, bowls, pots & pans, dishes, sink and full refrigerator; bedroom with double bed; comfortable small living room with electric fireplace. Since this is a self catering cottage, retreatants must supply their own food. Some basic food items are suppled.
The minimum stay is three nights, since a true retreat requires time to settle into silence, with a charge of $90.00 per night. A week is preferable with the reduced rate being $550.00. GST is included. Laundry can be arranged.
In response to recent questions and some concerns, of late, we offer this information.
●You are welcome at Centre Maison Dieu and we will do all that we can to make your stay here conducive to relaxation and spiritual care.
●As pet owners we understand how difficult it often is to find pet care. Nevertheless there will be no pets permitted to honour the allergies of others.
●We are attempting to keep costs reasonable and have not, for the present, decided to charge a damage deposit. Fees for your stay will be paid on arrival, in cash. A receipt will be given you.
●You will need to plan ahead for groceries for the self-catering cottage, keeping in mind that country stores have limited items and higher costs. We will leave you some basic items.
●Those who choose the bed-sitting room are able to arrange for meals whether downstairs or with us. There is a set fee for meals and/or laundry. Please feel free to ask questions beforehand.
●A full week stay permits for a mid-week towel change only. Bedding is for the week. Please be sensitive regarding water usage.
●The toilet is a hummus, no-flush, composting toilet, an environmental choice. It is not complicated.
●Books are available for use while on retreat and remain the possession of Centre Maison Dieu.
●As a retreatant you will find materials to help on your self-directed retreat. Should you require something more, this can be negotiated.
●The church is available for prayer and contemplation. You are welcome to any services held. The trails are lovely places of eace and solitude.
●We do not allow smoking or vaping on this property or in the cottage. Please let us know if you have food allergies, or allergies generally, so that we are able to make your stay both safe and productive.
●With the exception of arranged youth events, there is no camping on site as holiday trailers and tents are not what we are about. The animals and creatures on these acres deserve their peace and tranquillity too.
●The cottage comes with a small fire pit and some initial wood to use when there is no fire ban (we have had a numbers of fire bans in recent years).
